"What
if?" A simple question sometimes produces wondrous discoveries. For example,
what if you took a freshly redesigned 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier and added a turbocharger
to its standard Ecotec 2.2-liter engine? The result would be a car with the
performance to back up its good looks. Stated more succinctly, you would have
the Cavalier 2.2 Turbo Sport Coupe.
Turbocharging the aluminum engine with dual overhead
camshafts and four-valves-per-cylinder technology results in 220 ponies (versus
140 in the production model). That performance is put to the pavement via the
silky five-speed manual transmission of the production model.
Other performance cues on Cavalier 2.2 Sport Turbo
on display at the 2002 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show include
a four-inch Borla "Boomer" stainless steel exhaust, and three-piece
Racing Hard 19 x 7.5-inch wheels shod with TOYO Proxes FZ-4 P225/35R19 tires.
Cavalier 2.2 Turbo Sport Coupe's performance is smartly complemented by its
dazzling styling.
Cavalier 2.2 Turbo Sport Coupe features unique
front and rear fascias, bodyside moldings, a hood with a ram air scoop, a rear
spoiler and clear-lens taillamps by APC.
"Dazzling" also best describes the Sport
Coupe's paint. The base coat is a Matrix Satintech mirrored glass-enhanced semi-gloss
and the mid coat is crushed-mirror and Xerllic reflective-glass mica and aluminum
flake silver. A Sherwood Williams clear urethane top coat completes the paint
process. The result is a light metallic tri-coat paint that shimmers.
Inside, the matrix light yellow mirrored paint
duly accents the carbon fiber leather inserts found in the instrument panel,
console trim and door. The "sport" aspect of this special Cavalier,
meanwhile, is reflected in the Sparco Lap 5 model steering wheel wrapped in
black leather and the Sparco brushed aluminum and leather shift knob.
Sometimes, "what if" can influence the
future.
